Who is behind the Cornerfield Shop? If you are wondering that, you came to the right place. My name is Rico and I have been a maker for as long I can remember. When I was a little, I asked my parents for random stuff that I could nail to a piece of wood. After that creation, I have been making things left and right but without realizing that I’m a maker at heart. That realization came much later in 2010 when I made my first piece of furniture.
We wanted a coffee table for our apartment but couldn’t find what we wanted so I decided to simply build it myself. “How hard could it be?”. Well, it turns out, it’s not very hard but making something pretty can be quite a challenge. For me, that is exactly where the joy in making things comes from! The drive to improve your work, the fulfillment of knowing how to fix something, and most importantly the satisfaction you feel when you see the result for your work!
Born and raised in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Just a regular guy. I went to school, college, and finally got a job. I worked in IT for about 8 years holding all sorts of titles. From Web Designer, Developer, Project Manager, and finally Consultant. These are things that I still love to do, however in 2016 something needed to change. I got stuck in a routine that I couldn’t break and I became unhappy with my situation.
Follow your excitement and do what you love.
Making gave me a place to think about what I wanted to do with my life and it also gave me answers. Not literally of course… Following what feels right works for me when I’m making something but it also applies to my life. It just works. I decided to only do things I love to do (and stuff I absolutely have to do). Finding what those things are, was easy. I just stopped looking and was open for what came my way.
I’m now an IT consultant, and maker. A bizarre combination that no one could have dreamed up. It only happened because I was open-minded to do what feels right. And it feels amazing!
I’ve never been happier :-).
Why the Cornerfield Shop?
Getting ideas and inspiration for new projects came from other creators on YouTube. I first started following a few but soon it was a whole group of awesome makers. They inspire me every time I watch one of their videos and I’ve learned a lot from them! That is why the Cornerfield Shop came to life.
I’ve been making now for a few years but really got serious about it by watching others make amazing things. They gave me the push I needed to get off my ass and actually do something. I decided that I wanted to be that inspiration and push for others. Even if it’s just for one person, it’s worth it!
The funny thing about life is that it takes you on the right course if you let it. Everything starts with taking that first step, what’s keeping you from taking it?
